Why Me?

Why Me?

I’ll never forget growing up in a house with five kids.  If my mom would have collected a quarter every time someone said “why do I have to do it?” or “why can’t (insert sibling name) do it?”, she would never have to worry about money!

As we grow into adults, we find the love of our life, we marry, and everything just falls into place, right?  Um, no!  We find ourselves questioning our spouse with “why do I have to take the garbage out, why can’t you do it?”, and “I work all day, I’m tired, you do it!”, or “I take care of the kids all day, why can’t you just give me a break?”

We hear our own kids echoing those same words we complained to our parents as kids, and it just seems like we are always trying to escape some kind of responsibility.  Some kind of something we just don’t want to do!

Not to mention the ugly that life seems to always throw OUR way!   Lay offs, illness, death, depression, etc.  The neighbors grass looks green, but in our yard all we see is the rain!  We cry out “Why God?  Why me?  Am I the only one who should suffer so much?”

I certainly have not had a shortage of rain in my life.  And yes, I often wonder “why me?”  However, God has always answered the questioning of my heart with this promise…

“For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord.  “Plans to prosper you, and not to harm you, plans to give you HOPE and a FUTURE.”  Jeremiah 29:11

This verse has gently been a reminder that sometimes we need the rain for the grass to grow!  God promises us that He has a plan, and that His plan is good!  Just like that blade of grass that gets pummeled by the winds of the storm, dried out by the scorching sun and flattened by heavy feet, it survives.  It grows again.  It is green and strong.

My prayer is that you (and I) can weather any storm by “casting your cares on Him” and trusting that He has a beautiful plan for you!  Yes, you!  We are all created in His image, which makes us beautiful and special and worthy of a purpose and a future!

So, my friends, when it’s raining hard, and the wind is blowing, and it feels like there is no end in sight, trust that the One who created you has an incredible plan to bring you through this storm and fulfill His perfect plan for your life!
